
DESCRIPTION OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
JOB TITLE: Volunteer Handicapped Parking Enforcement Specialist
SUPERVISORS: Officer Eric Wilson & Officer Chris Cunningham
JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES:
Volunteers will patrol in teams of two where they will monitor the handicap parking spaces throughout the City of Beaumont. They will enforce City of Beaumont Ordinance and state laws related to handicap parking violations. This will include the issuance of parking citations and taking digital photographs of the violation when necessary. Citations and photographs will then be complied, approved, and forwarded to Municipal Court. Volunteers must be available to testify in court if and when a citation is set for trial.
TIME REQUIRED: (Days needed, hours needed, etc.)
Initially volunteers will be asked to work a minimum of three (3) hours a week. Volunteers will be scheduled to work during daylight hours Monday through Friday. There is no weekend volunteer enforcement at this time.
DESCRIBE TRAINING THAT WILL BE PROVIDED:
Training will be provided by the Beaumont Police Department and will include no less than four (4) hours of detailed classroom instruction and a ride out with supervising officers where volunteers will receive hands on training. Volunteers will also receive training on the use of the Beaumont Police Department portable radio system and will be required to observe in Communications (Dispatch) at least two (2) hours before being allowed to function in an enforcement capacity.

Patience, good judgment, honesty, reliable, high attention to detail, and legible handwriting.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Although this enforcement position is non-confrontational in design, each volunteer must possess the ability to handle potentially tense situations and angry citizens in a manner that positively represents the City of Beaumont and the Beaumont Police Department. Volunteers will be using their own reliable transportation for the enforcement activity and must possess current liability insurance. Volunteer applicants must meet all of the eligibility requirements set forth in the Beaumont Police Department Volunteer Program Policy and Procedures.
